Thermal cameras reveal the internal states of wild chimpanzees
How can we know what chimpanzees feel?
What excites them, what worries them, and how do they feel? But above all, how can we know without them being able to communicate it to us?

These are the questions I sought to answer with Klaus Zuberbühler, Alice Bouchard and Adrian Soldati at the Comparative Cognition Laboratory at the University of Neuchâtel. I conducted research studying the internal states of wild chimpanzees, collecting data in the field in the Budongo Forest in Uganda over a period of six months. The results were published in February 2022 in the open access journal Scientific Reports.
